The short version: I own a CNC job shop. I used to spend 25 hours a week buried in office paperwork — quoting in a homemade Excel calculator, tracking jobs through my email inbox and a legal pad, and doing job costing by digging through old emails and payroll records. Every quote used to mean a homemade Excel calculator and numbers scratched on paper — an hour or more, every time. Now I quote a job in under 20 minutes, everything in one place. Material quoting got easier too: I write one RFQ draft and send it to multiple material suppliers at the same time — no more writing the same email five times to five vendors. My old system was an inbox and pen and paper. When work stacked up, jobs got lost — material didn't get ordered, due dates slid, and customers made the phone call every shop owner dreads. Today I track up to 100 jobs at once on a visual job board — every job, every status, one screen. Each morning, one click runs a report of everything on the floor. Due dates hold. Customers stay happy.
JOB COSTING: THE REAL NUMBERS, AUTOMATICALLY
The old way: search your email for every material purchase, dig through payroll, and ask your guys how much time they think a job took. Invoicing runs through the platform and connects with QuickBooks and Gmail — far less time clicking around inside QuickBooks. The job's numbers are already in the system, so the invoice practically builds itself and gets where it needs to go without the double-entry dance.

The paperwork that ate 25 hours a week now runs through the system, and I've got 20–25 hours a week back, depending on quoting workload. That time goes where it should — on the machines, with customers, and building the next thing. I stopped being my shop's clerk and went back to being its owner.
